At TheraMed Nuclear we strive to be doctor-tailored and patient-centered—offering general nuclear medicine, molecular imaging and targeted radionuclide therapy services. Many of these diagnostics and therapies form part of the ever-growing field of theragnosis whereby a single substance is used to both diagnose and treat a patient.
Nuclear Medicine is a diagnostic imaging specialty that is concerned with the imaging of physiological and functional processes in the body, as opposed to radiology – concerned mainly with the anatomical and morphological aspects of the body and various disease processes.
At TheraMed Nuclear, we aim to provide all the general nuclear medicine services required by specialists to make the best decisions for their patients. Over and above these conventional imaging modalities we also perform three-dimensional tomographic SPECT reconstruction, hybrid SPECT-CT and PET-CT for accurate localization and grading of various pathological processes including infections, tumours and organ damage.
On the therapeutic front, we work together with various specialities including clinical oncology, radiation oncology, rheumatology, orthopedics, endocrinology and interventional radiology to provide various targeted radionuclide therapies for patients suffering from amongst others thyroid dysfunction, polyarthropathy and cancer or the painful and debilitating consequences thereof.
This is a list of common services offered by Nuclear Medicine—should any interested parties have queries about rarer treatments and procedures, please feel free to contact us or download relevant PDFs in the Specialty Specific Services or Scan…
Read MoreThe gamma camera or Anger camera has long been the work-horse of Nuclear Medicine. Using specialized detector crystals that emit light when hit by photons (radiation emanating from the body) we are able to plot their origin…
Read MoreThe positron, as opposed to the photon, is a particle that doesn’t exist naturally in nature. All positron emitting radio-isotopes are created artificially. In the body these particles interact with naturally occurring electrons in the tissues, which…
Read MoreThe rate at which Nuclear Medicine treatments have increased has been staggering. The efficacy with which these therapies can be delivered is world-class and no longer experimental. Indeed many private centers internationally now offer these services where…

Mr Holton is a Nuclear Technologists with more than 20 years experience in the Nuclear Medicine industry and a welcome addition to our team.
I love life. Did my BRad Hons Nuclear Medicine in 1992. Experienced exciting change and growth in Nuclear Medicine and PET. Worked for two years in New Zealand and Australia, returned recently and was forunate enough to obtain employment at this dynamic practice.
After years working in the Culinary business - I decided to join this dynamic Theramed PET practise. I love to interact with people and patients and it's my friendly voice you'll hear when phoning our Benoni Practice.
